How does Google Calendar work in Shift?
There are two ways to use Google Calendar in Shift:
1. Using the built-in calendar feature
2. Adding Google Calendar as a standalone app in your Shift sidebar
How to use the built-in calendar feature
Whenever you add a Gmail (or Microsoft) account to Shift, the associated calendar is automatically added. You can access it by clicking the calendar button in the top right corner of your screen.

Using the Google Calendar app in your sidebar
You can add Google Calendar directly to your Shift sidebar. Here's how:
- Click the "+" in the lower-left corner
- Select "Add Application"
- Type "Google Calendar" in the search bar
- Select "Google Calendar," then add your preferred account name and colour
- Click "Save" to add Google Calendar in the Shift sidebar
- Log in to your Google account
If you have multiple Google Calendars, you can add them all to the Shift sidebar by adding the Google Calendar app multiple times and logging in to your different accounts. Click to learn how to add multiple accounts to your setup.
IMPORTANT: When you add a Google app to your sidebar, you will be signed in with your Primary Shift account. To use a different Google account, do this:
- Add a second Google Calendar app to your sidebar (do not delete the first one)
- Sign into the second Google Calendar app with the desired Google account
- Delete the first Google Calendar app
Known issues with Google Calendar in Shift
Some users have problems with Google Calendar notifications. Sometimes, notifications don’t follow the set preferences. Users who turn off notifications might still get them, and users who turn them on might not get them.
