Strong Customer Authentication and Shift

Are you wondering how Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) works or if it applies to you? Let us break it down for you!

How does SCA work?

Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) adds an extra layer of security to your online payments. It requires you to verify your purchase before the charge is applied to your card.

If your bank uses SCA, Stripe (Shift’s payment provider) will send you an email to confirm your pending transaction. Once your transaction is verified, your Shift account will remain active for the duration of your subscription.

Completing Your Payment

After purchasing Shift, make sure to complete your payment by clicking the "Complete Payment" button in the email sent to your inbox.

  • First-time buyers: You must complete the payment within 24 hours of purchase.
  • Renewing subscribers: Complete the payment within 15 days of your renewal.

Failure to complete your payment will result in service interruption, and your account will downgrade to Shift Basic (free). Transactions that don’t meet the SCA requirements may also be declined by your bank.

Who is affected by SCA?

SCA currently applies to users in the European Economic Area (EEA) whose banks have implemented these regulations. If you’re outside Europe, you’re not affected by SCA for now.
