All about Bookmark Bars

Bookmark bars are a unique grouping of bookmarks that appear across the top of the Shift UI. Bookmark bars can be global or tied only to a certain Workspace. Continue reading to learn all the ins and outs of Bookmark Bars! 🍫

Home Bar

If you don't see your bookmarks, press Cmd Shift B or Ctrl Shift B on your keyboard to show them. By default, all bookmarks will appear in the "Home Bar," which is the default bookmark bar for all your Workspaces. The Home Bar is a globally available Bookmark Bar (i.e., a Bookmark Bar you can access no matter where you click in Shift). The Home Bar cannot be deleted, and the name cannot be changed.

Note: You can only import or use 5000 or fewer bookmarks in Shift

How to create a new Bookmark Bar

  1. Navigate to the Bookmark Bar and click on the drop-down arrow on the right-hand side
  2. Select "Add Bookmarks Bar"
  3. Choose a name, and icon, and hit "Save"

If you opt to not make the Bookmark Bar globally available, you will only be able to select it when you click into the Workspace within which you created that Bookmark Bar. Any Bookmark Bar you create can be made globally available (or not).

Note: a new, non-global Bookmark Bar will be created automatically every time a new Workspace is created.

How to edit a Bookmark Bar

Any Bookmark Bar, aside from the Home Bar, can be edited:

  1. Navigate to the Bookmark Bar and click on the drop-down arrow on the right-hand side
  2. Right-click on the bar you want to edit
  3. Make the desired changes, such as changing the name, icon, and global availability (selectable within all Workspaces)

How to delete a Bookmark Bar

Any Bookmark Bar, aside from the Home Bar, can be deleted:

  1. Navigate to the Bookmark Bar and click on the drop-down arrow on the right-hand side
  2. Right-click on the bar you want to delete and then click "Okay"
