Shift Accessibility Settings & Helpful Extensions

Shift offers built-in accessibility settings that can be used on both Mac & Windows computers. Keep reading to learn more about each of the settings available in Shift.

Shift's Advanced Settings

To access the accessibility settings, follow these steps to Shift's Advanced Settings: 

  1. Go to Quick Settings (gear icon, top-right corner of Shift) 
  2. Scroll down the slider and click on 'Advanced Settings'
  3. Click on 'Accessibility' in the sidebar to open Shift's dedicated accessibility settings

Accessibility Settings in Shift

  1. Live Caption

    • Description: Automatically creates captions for audio and video content, enhancing accessibility for users with hearing impairments. Users can manage the preferred language that's set
    • Compatibility: Works on both Mac and Windows 

  2. Caption Preferences

    • Description: Allows users to access and manage caption settings via the local operating system's preferences
    • Compatibility: Works on both Mac and Windows

  3. Add Accessibility Features

    • Description: This feature opens the Chrome Webstore to add accessibility extensions
    • Compatibility: Works on both Mac or Windows

Additional Settings 

In addition to the dedicated Accessibility Settings in Shift, there are also a few settings you can adjust that may help enhance your experience of Shift that are not found under the Accessibility sidebar. 

  1. Adjust the Size of your Sidebar (Workspaces & Apps) 

    • Description: Change the size and look of your Shift sidebar with options for Default, Medium, Large, or Expanded 
    • Steps:
      • Right-click anywhere on your sidebar and select the style from the dropdown menu, or
      • Open Quick Settings (gear icon, top-right of Shift), scroll down the slider panel to 'Sidebar size' and choose your preferred size

  2. Mute Notifications  

    • Description: Easily mute notifications across Shift for 30 minutes to avoid distractions  
    • Steps:
      • Open Quick Settings (gear icon, top-right of Shift), click 'Mute Notification for 30 minutes'

  3. Font Size & Page Zoom  

    • Description: Adjust font size and page zoom across Shift 
    • Steps:
      • Open Quick Settings (gear icon, top-right of Shift), scroll down the slider panel and click 'Advanced Settings', select 'Appearance' from the sidebar, scroll to Font Size and Page Zoom settings 

Helpful Extensions in the Chrome Webstore

  1. AutoMute
    • Description: Automatically mutes each new tab the instant it is opened
    • Compatibility: Works on both Mac and Windows  

  2. HoverZoom+ 
    • Description: Zoom images/videos on all your favourite websites
    • Compatibility: Works on both Mac and Windows

  3. Colorblind
    • Description: Allowing people with different kinds of colour blindness (colour vision deficiency) to see more colours
    • Compatibility: Works on Both Mac and Windows

  4. I don't care about cookies
    • Description: Removes cookie warnings from almost all websites
    • Compatibility: Works on Both Mac and Windows
