Windows Accessibility Settings to Enhance Your Shift Experience

At Shift, we want to make sure that everyone can use our platform easily. Windows has some built-in accessibility features that can make it easier to see, hear, and focus when using your computer, especially when using Shift. Below, we've outlined some of these settings, along with the link to the relevant Microsoft support articles so you can easily find and adjust them to your needs.

So You Can See Better

You can change how things look on your screen to make them easier to see. Whether you want to make text bigger, adjust the mouse pointer, or change the colors, these settings can help you. see more clearly and work more comfortably.

Adjust the Text Cursor

If you have trouble finding the blinking line (text cursor) when typing, you can make it thicker and change its color to see it better.

Adjust Mouse Pointer

If your mouse pointer is too small or hard to see, you can make it bigger and change its color.

Adjust Text Size

If the default text size in Windows is too small, you can make it bigger across all apps and windows without changing the resolution of your display.

Change Contrast

High Contrast mode changes the color scheme of your Windows environment to make text and app interfaces easier to see. It’s particularly useful if you have visual impairments or sensitivity to bright colors.

Color Filters

Color Filters can help if you have color blindness or sensitivity. You can apply a filter to your screen that makes certain colors more distinguishable, enhancing your visual experience.

Voice & Audio

From Voice Typing and Voice Access to Narrator and Live Captions, discover how voice and audio tools can make your digital interactions more accessible and efficient.

Voice Typing

Windows has a built-in voice typing feature that allows you to dictate text instead of typing it. This is helpful if typing is hard for you.

Voice Access

Voice Access is a new feature that provides hands-free control of your PC using voice commands. You can navigate, interact with apps, and even dictate text using just your voice. This feature is expected to be widely available starting in September.

Narrator

Narrator reads aloud the text on your screen and tells you about notifications and other important things. This is helpful if you have trouble seeing the screen.

Live Captions (Windows 11)

Live Captions show the words spoken in videos and audio as text on your screen. This is helpful if you have trouble hearing. Live Captions only work on Windows 11.

You can reduce distractions on your computer to help you focus better.

Focus Sessions

Focus Sessions help you stay on task by letting you set a timer to work on something without distractions. It also reminds you to take breaks.

Quiet Down Those Notifications

You can turn off notifications or schedule them for specific times so they don’t interrupt you.
