Wondering what happens to your data when you log out of Shift? Let’s find out!

What happens when you log out?

Most of your Shift data is saved right on your computer. This keeps your data safe because Shift is as secure as your computer is. Some data is also saved on Shift’s servers, which means you can use certain features even if you log out or switch to another computer.

Important: Open web tabs and pinned tabs are saved on your computer, not on Shift’s servers.

Read more about privacy and security here.

What data is saved?

Some information is stored on Shift’s servers, so it stays the same even if you log out or use Shift on a different computer. This includes:

  • The email accounts you’ve added.
  • The apps you’ve added.

What data is local (not saved)?

Most of the data in Shift is stored locally on your computer and gets cleared if you log out of your Primary Shift Account or access your Shift account on another computer. This includes:

  • Chrome extensions you’ve added.
  • Saved or imported passwords.
  • Shift browser settings (like link opening preferences).
  • Your browsing history.
  • Opened web tabs and pinned tabs.
  • Data that keeps you logged into your accounts.
  • The order of your email accounts and apps in the sidebar.

This means, that if you log out of your Primary Shift Account or use Shift on another computer, this data will not be accessible.
