What to do if you're having an issue with an extension in Shift

  • Updated

Have an issue with a Chrome extension in Shift? Whether you're having an issue logging in, getting the extension to work, or something else, this article will walk you through 7 quick tips to help get your Chrome extension in Shift up and running. Simply start at the top and work your way down the list! 👇

1. Extensions in Shift are global

This means you can log into a single account for an extension (rather than multiple accounts for the same extension).

2. Certain extensions will only work with your Primary Shift Account

Extensions that are tied to a single email (think CRMs and email trackers) will only work in your Primary Shift Account. If you try to log into some extensions in your non-primary email, they will not work. A few known examples include Todoist, Boomerang, Copper, HubSpot, Mixmax, Mailtrack, Streak, etc. You may run into an error page saying "This page has been blocked by Shift" like the following screenshot when you attempt to use these extensions in one of your secondary emails:

If you need to use a certain extension with one of your non-primary emails, we recommend changing your Primary Shift Account email.

3. Check Known Issues

There are currently 2 known issues with extensions:

4. Make sure you use the extension icon to log into the extension

Always use the extension icon towards the upper right corner to log into your extensions:

5. Authenticate within Shift

Some extensions will open up a new tab to log in. Ensure this login tab is opened within Shift or in a new Shift window. If the tab opens in your default browser instead of Shift and you log in there, Shift can't recognize you're logged in, since you'd be logging into a completely separate environment! You can make sure the login tab opens within Shift by toggling this setting:

6. Refresh the page

Sometimes a page refresh is needed to activate the extension. Click the Reload Page button towards the upper right corner. Alternatively, you can also double-click on your Email icon (towards the upper right in your Shift) can help give your email the extra little refresh it needs to register your extension login.

7. Can't find your desired extension? Search for it manually outside of the Chrome Web Store

Sometimes, specific extensions do not show up when searched for directly in the Chrome web store. If this is the case for you, please search for the extension outside of the web store until you find a link that will open it up in the web store for you. From there, if opened in Shift (check #2), you should have the ability to add the extension to Shift!
