How can we support you?

Sometimes clicking on a link opens in Shift, and sometimes shows a suggestion. Can I change this behavior?

Are you getting pop-ups asking you to install an app when clicking on links? This article will explain why.

Smart Link Handling

This happens because of a feature called Smart Link Handling. This feature runs in the background and detects when a clicked link is related to an app you've added or an app in the Shift app library. When Shift detects such a link, it shows a pop-up asking if you want to install the corresponding app or open the link in the app in your sidebar.

How to Turn Off Smart Link Handling

If you want to turn this feature off, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Quick Settings by clicking the gear icon in the top right
  2. Scroll down and click on Advanced Settings
  3. Click the “You and Shift” option from the sidebar
  4. Toggle off "Suggest Apps to Install"

*GIF shows the steps to access Quick Settings, then Advanced Settings, and locate the toggle for 'Suggest Apps to Install'
