Are you having issues with Shift’s access to your camera, microphone, screen sharing, or other permissions? Want to customize these permissions? You can control permissions for all the items in your sidebar. Often, permission is also needed at the operating system level. Here are some quick tips for permissions. 😎

1. Check Shift's permissions on your computer

Make sure Shift has the right permissions in your system preferences. Without them, Shift can’t display desktop notifications. Check your system permissions based on your operating system:

2. Check your email and app permissions in Shift

Permission preferences for each sidebar item are local to your computer. Changes will be saved only on the computer you’re using. If you're using Shift on multiple computers, you will need to check the settings on each one. Click here to learn more about using Shift on multiple computers.

To change permissions for your emails, apps, and websites:

  1. Click into an email, app, or open web tab.
  2. Click the Lock symbol next to the search bar at the top of Shift (Omnibox).
  3. In the drop-down menu, click Site Settings.
  4. Toggle the drop-down on the right-hand side and select Allow/Block for each permission as needed.

3. Hard refresh Shift

While changing permissions should take effect immediately, sometimes a hard refresh is needed. You can hard refresh Shift by pressing Cmd + Shift + R (Mac) or Ctrl + Shift + R (Windows) on your keyboard.
